I hope that you have all had a great Thanksgiving break filled with lots of food and relaxation! I enjoyed my Thanksgiving with all my friends here and they enjoyed having an excuse to feast on lots of good food! So now I just want to take a while to tell you all about my amazing experience in Prague.
The group! From left: Marika from Finnland, Laura from Columbia, Mais from Syria, and me and Dustin from the USA.
Us with a palace guard
I had no idea that Prague was as beautiful as it was. I knew it was a very old and historical place, but was amazed by what I saw. The whole time I was there I was feeling so blessed to be able to share that experience with the four friends who I traveled with. We laughed a lot and all had the same intention to see as much as we could in the 2 days that we had there! It was such a blast.
Cathedral with the third oldest and still functioning astronomical clock in the world located in the Old Town Square
Old Town Square with the tree and Christmas market
We had the best time just walking around because at nearly every street corner there is something amazing to see. We walked for about twelve hours on Saturday just going from place to place and taking lots of time to take pictures and breathe it all in. We saw nearly everything there is to see and we were even there for the lighting of the giant Christmas tree in the Old Town Square. It was so crowded!! We could barely move, but the atmosphere was so awesome and we were laughing the whole time.
They money conversion is a little tricky to calculate in the Czech Republic because 27 Czech crowns equals 1 Euro and 21 Czech crowns is 1 US dollar. So imagine our surprise when we got our group's bill the first night and it was like 2,000 CZ... first we had a heart attack then realized it was only like 84 euros. It was really funny. But we constantly had our cell phones out calculating the prices into euros so that we could know if it was a good deal or not. But usually it was, as Prague is not nearly as expensive as most European cities like Paris, Brussels, or London. I thought it was very decently priced!
Honestly, I just don't have the words to describe the beauty of this city. The language, culture, and people are so interesting. Nearly everyone speaks English, and if they couldn't speak English then they definitely spoke German, so there were never communication issues. It was so cool. Everyone was so incredibly friendly and they loved meeting people from other countries, as people from all over the world travel to Prague. I heard lots of British accents and Americans so that made me happy! I mean really, there were people from all over there. It was such an amazing place to be, especially in the Christmas market atmosphere. There was one guy from Scotland behind me at the Christmas tree lighting who was not impressed with the tree lights, and he said his cat's tongue is more interesting than that Christmas tree (as the lights were flashing with the music), but the way he said it made it hilarious.
Street signs
We walked over Charles Bridge to the castle and the cathedral at the top of a giant hill, which looked incredible, and the cathedral is the largest in Europe. Sadly we weren't able to go inside, but it was still really cool from the outside. From up there we had an awesome view of the city, even though it was a little foggy.

Everyone rubs the belly of this saint for blessings and it means you'll return to Prague someday. Located on St. Charles Bridge.
Me being COLD
So mostly we spent our time walking from one place to another, stopping in at lots of little local shops and some of our favorite clothes stores. We happened upon a really cool building that I've seen likea hundred times on Pinterest! I was like "OMG Y'ALL THIS BUILDING IS SUPER FAMOUS!" And they asked me what it is and I had no idea... but it's cool because it's so modern and just generally awesome looking. It doesn't exactly fit into old-timeyness of Prague.
I think it's an art museum...
Like I mentioned earlier, the Christmas markets are up and going in Europe, so we had the best time looking at each of the booths and trying the food and drinks. There is this tradition bread they make for these markets that's pronounced like "tirdlow," and it's baked over charcoal around a round metal bar, and it tastes so good! There was also lots of hot wine and cider available at almost every booth so we were always warm with something to drink. Which leads me to my next point that it was REALLY cold! In crowds it was okay, but out in the open, especially near the water, it was cold cold COLD. We stayed very bundled up and didn't let the temperatures make us miserable.

Cute drink menu! Europeans LOVE hot wine around this time of year.

So my advice to you is if you want to see a truly gorgeous city that will not break the bank, go to Prague. The atmosphere and attitude of people in Prague is so welcoming and fun. I think this is a place that everyone should visit someday! I just can't tell you enough how worth it it is to see a place like this.
