Things Are Looking BRIGHT(on)

As expected, this week has been wonderful! I absolutely love it here. The weather alone has been perfect, staying mostly in the 60's. I'm slowly but surely getting used to the time change and learning my way around Petersfield a little bit everyday (it's a much bigger place than Joe let on!!). I get weird looks every now and then since I don't have a British accent... I guess it just catches people off-guard! But everyone I've talked to has been so sweet and helpful. Conversions are still a mystery to me, I'm not very good with the pounds to dollars rate or the Celsius to Fahrenheit stuff, but I am catching on to the 24-Hour clock (I've set my phone to the 24-Hour clock to help me learn it faster). And mostly I'm still getting used to my friends being asleep for a good part of my day since the States is six hours behind England, but I love waking up to their messages and Snapchats that they send while I'm asleep.

So first things first, I am using Joe's keyboard for the first time and while our letter keys are the same, it's different around the edges so excuse any weird stuff if I don't catch it!

Yesterday I took a train down to see a city called Brighton with Ollie just out of boredom, and it turned out to be an incredibly beautiful place! I told Joe that I would move there in a heartbeat. Brighton is fast-moving and modern, but there is still a good balance of historical places and museums, as well as pretty sitting areas in gardens. I loved the curvy alley ways between blocks that were paved in cobble stone and had cute little shops with seating areas and flowers hanging outside their stores. What was really neat was that from the middle of the city looking south, you could see the ocean between the buildings. We walked down to the beach, which has smooth rocks instead of sand, which I thought was quite an upgrade since I hate sand, and then went to walk the pier, which stretched out above the ocean with small carnival-like rides at the end. From every view, Brighton was just gorgeous. I had the best time there.

I picked up a union jack umbrella while I was in town, and even though it screams TOURIST, I love it and have always wanted one!! I also got some postcards so those will be on the way out as soon as I find out how to get to the post office! ;)

And now looking forward to this weekend... it will be interesting to say at the least!! Joe's birthday was Tuesday and a bunch of his friends are going out with us to Portsmouth this weekend to celebrate... dressed as zombies. It's definitely going to be a new experience as I have never been clubbing, and I certainly have not dressed as a zombie before. So I'm excited and I can't wait to see how many weird looks we get. This whole trip is going to be a huge "YOLO" moment.

Let's talk about Burger King's return of the much-beloved chicken fries. I asked for them at a BK in Brighton, and only got a weird look. Let's please observe a moment of silence for the unavailability of my favorite fast food snack after it's big return in the States.

...

That's really all I've got for today! For more photos, check my Facebook album titled "England",  I will keep it updated. :)

Thanks for reading,

Bethany
